Business English Vocabulary (Part 4): Speak with Precision and Clarity

Enhance your business communication by using precise vocabulary. Learn the right words to sound more professional and effective.

Using the right vocabulary in business communication is key to sounding professional and conveying your message clearly. In this video, we explore how to upgrade common phrases with more precise vocabulary to improve your business English skills.

Instead of saying "tell why", opt for the more formal verb "explain". This word provides a clearer, more detailed approach to conveying information. For example, "Please, explain your decision" is more professional than "Please, tell me why you’ve made this decision". This change helps in making your requests sound more thoughtful and respectful.

Similarly, replacing "talk more" with "elaborate" enhances the clarity and formality of your language. "Elaborate" is used when asking someone to provide more detail or expand on a point. For instance, "Could you please elaborate on that?" is more sophisticated than "Could you please talk some more about the project?"

Lastly, instead of using "fix the problem", consider using "solve". "Solve" is a more formal and precise term that focuses on finding a solution to a problem. For example, "How are you going to solve this problem?" sounds more direct and confident than "How are you going to fix this problem?"

Watch our video to learn how to integrate these terms into your business vocabulary and communicate more effectively.
