Married to vs. Married with
Understanding prepositions in English can be tricky, especially with phrases like “married to” and “married with.” Many learners mistakenly say “married with,” but in English, we always say “married to.”
For example:
• Correct: “He is married to Maria.”
• Incorrect: “He is married with Maria.”
You can also say:
• “He got married to Maria.”
• “He is Maria’s husband.”
The preposition “to” shows a connection between two people. The phrase “married with” is incorrect when referring to a person. However, “married with children” is correct when talking about someone having a spouse and kids.
By using “married to” correctly, you’ll sound more fluent and natural in English conversations!
