Borrow vs. Lend Explained
In this video, we explain the difference between “borrow” and “lend,” two commonly confused verbs in English. While these words are related to the exchange of things, their usage depends on the perspective of the speaker.
When you borrow something, you take it from someone else with their permission. For example, “Can you borrow me a pen?” is incorrect. The correct form is “Can you lend me a pen?” In this case, the person giving the pen is “lending” it to you.
On the other hand, if you are the one giving something to someone, you “lend” it. For example, “I can lend you my book” means you are offering to let the other person use it.
This small but important difference ensures clarity in everyday conversations. By using “borrow” and “lend” correctly, you’ll sound more natural and fluent in English. Keep practicing this distinction to avoid mistakes and improve your communication skills.
Now that you understand how to use these words, try using them in your next conversation to build confidence!
