Providing Constructive Feedback (Part 2): Effective Strategies
Giving constructive feedback is essential for effective communication and fostering a positive environment, whether at work or in personal interactions. In this video, we introduce the "I like, I wish, I wonder" formula, a simple yet powerful approach to delivering feedback that is both constructive and non-aggressive.
- I Like. Start with a positive observation to show appreciation and acknowledge what's working well. Example: "I like the layout and colors". This statement opens feedback on a positive note, making the recipient more receptive to suggestions.
- I Wish. Express a desire for improvement without directly criticizing. This approach helps in addressing areas that need changes. Example: "I wish the text was easier to read". This phrasing focuses on the desire for enhancement rather than pointing out a flaw.
- I Wonder. Offer a suggestion in the form of a question to encourage collaboration and exploration of new ideas. Example: "I wonder if we could increase the contrast to improve readability". This statement invites discussion and opens the floor for brainstorming solutions.
Watch our video to learn how to use this feedback formula effectively. By mastering this technique, you can provide constructive feedback that fosters growth and improvement while maintaining a positive and supportive tone.
