First Conditional in English
The first conditional is used to talk about realistic situations in the present or future. It follows the structure: If + present simple, will + base verb. This structure helps you express events that are likely to happen.
For example: "If you are hungry, I will give you a snack". This sentence indicates a realistic situation where being hungry leads to getting a snack.
Here are more examples:
- If you study, you will do well in your exam.
- If it rains, we will stay indoors.
In addition to "will", you can use modal verbs like "can", "must", or even the imperative form. This provides flexibility in expressing different degrees of necessity or permission.
Examples:
- If you are free later, we can go for some dinner.
- If you are tired, take a break.
- If it rains, we must postpone our game.
Using the first conditional correctly allows you to communicate possible future events clearly and effectively. Watch the video and practice forming your own first conditional sentences.
