Using "Ever" in Questions

Understand how to correctly use "ever" in questions and avoid common mistakes when talking about past experiences.

The word "ever" is commonly used in questions to refer to experiences that have happened at any point in the past. However, it’s important to remember that it is typically not used when talking about your own experiences.

In the video, Jim corrects Dave’s mistake of saying “I have ever been to Japan,” explaining that the correct way to express this would be “I’ve been to Japan” or “I’ve been there before.” This is because "ever" is only used in questions, such as “Have you ever been to Japan?”

By using "ever" in questions, you are asking if something has happened at any time in the past. For example, “Have you ever tried sushi?” But when talking about your own past experiences, you simply say “I’ve tried sushi.”
