Common Body Sounds in English
This video will introduce you to the English terms for several body sounds and the situations in which you might hear or make them.
Here are 4 body sounds covered in the video.
- Sneeze. A sneeze is a sudden, involuntary expulsion of air through the nose and mouth. You usually sneeze when your nasal passages are irritated by dust, pollen, or other allergens.
- Snore. Snoring occurs when the flow of air through the mouth and nose is partially blocked during sleep, causing the tissues in the throat to vibrate and produce a sound.
- Sigh. A sigh is a long, deep breath often taken to express relief, frustration, or fatigue. It's a natural way to release tension and signal a change in mood or emotion.
- Gargle. Gargling involves swishing liquid in the back of the throat without swallowing. This sound is commonly associated with oral hygiene practices, such as using mouthwash.
Practice using these words in sentences to become more comfortable with them. For example, "I couldn't sleep because my partner was snoring loudly", or "I gargle with mouthwash every morning for fresh breath".
By learning these body sounds, you'll be better equipped to describe actions and sensations in your daily life, making your English conversations more precise and engaging.
